This week, the United Nations celebrated a special milestone: the 80th anniversary of its founding in 1945. For this week’s opening session, royals from around the world gathered in New York, including three jewel-wearing European queens (and a bonus princess!).

Queen Máxima, wife of the King of the Netherlands, has a long history working with the United Nations. For many years she has served as the Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, raising awareness about the importance of inclusive financial systems across the globe. In many ways, the role is a natural fit for Máxima, who worked in banking and finance before her marriage.
This week, Máxima headed to Washington, D.C. to attend meetings with banking and finance groups before heading to New York for the opening of the General Assembly. For the Washington meetings, she wore a blue trouser suit with a sautoir-length necklace strung with colorful beads and pearls. UFO No More reminds us that the necklace, which comes from Seaman Schepps, has been in Máxima’s jewelry box for the better part of a decade.

The Princess of Orange joined her mother during the US trip, shadowing her during her UN work. For the meetings in Washington, she too wore a trouser suit, pairing it with the gold jewelry that is quickly becoming her signature jewelry accessory.

On Tuesday, Queen Máxima and Princess Amalia were in New York to attend the opening of the General Assembly at UN headquarters in Manhattan. Máxima paired an olive green blouse and trousers with girandole earrings from Ole Lynggaard (owned and loved by several royals) and her sapphire and diamond tennis bracelet. Amalia wore a pink trouser suit, previously worn for a ship naming ceremony, with gold earrings and a gold necklace.

On Wednesday, Máxima and Amalia were out and about again in New York, attending the Global Forum. For the event, Máxima wore a sparkly tweed jumpsuit and jacket, while Amalia paired a navy dress with brown boots.

At the forum, Máxima wore another pair of gold Ole Lynggaard girandole earrings, this time with round pearl drops, plus her tennis bracelets set with sapphires, emeralds, and rubies.

Princess Amalia opted for more gold jewelry, wearing large gold hoop earrings and a gold herringbone necklace with stacks of bracelets.

The King and Queen of Sweden also headed to New York to be present for the opening of the General Assembly. On Monday, they stopped by the United Nations Rose Garden. Silvia wore a bright turquoise dress for the visit, paired with pearl button earrings and a pearl torsade necklace, as well as stacks of bracelets on both wrists.

Queen Mathilde, wife of the King of the Belgians, was in New York to participate in various UN events this week as well. On Monday, she wore a white dress made of crocheted lace (Natan, per UFO No More) as she attended a conference on sustainable development. With the dress, she wore an intriguing pair of vintage-style hoop earrings set with white gemstones and edged in twisted gold. I’m not sure who made these, but the rope-style detailing on the gold is a favorite design motif of Christine Bekaert.
Mathilde also wore her customary bracelets and watch, plus her gorgeous blue gemstone ring. Many of us think the ring is likely set with a blue-purple tanzanite in a slender halo of diamonds, and it’s been speculated that the piece was an anniversary gift from King Philippe.

Mathilde is clearly a fan of these modern-retro earrings, because she wore them again on Tuesday for both the opening of the General Assembly and a conference session dedicated to repatriating forcefully deported children. She paired the earrings this time with a red dress from Safiyaa and a pair of glasses with brown tortoiseshell frames.
