We’re back in Spain today, where the royal family is in full summer mode in the Balearic Islands. For the annual dinner at Marivent Palace, all of the royal ladies wore interesting jewelry—but Queen Sofia wins the award for the most intriguing piece of the night.
The Spanish royal family is currently in residence in the Balearic Islands for the summer, and on Tuesday evening, they hosted their annual dinner for local authorities at Marivent Palace in Palma. King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofia were joined by Felipe’s mother, Queen Sofia, who spends much of her time at the palace.
Sofia wore a colorful floral caftan for Tuesday evening’s dinner, and delightfully, she accessorized with a whole lot of gold jewelry. She wore earrings and a matching necklace that look to be set with pale pink or red and green gemstones. The necklace also features bold golden triangle motifs.
Sofia loves to layer jewelry, so it’s no surprise that she also added a second sautoir-length necklace and a gold brooch to her ensemble. Both come from Isabel Guarch, a Mallorca-based firm that has made numerous pieces for members of the royal family. Queen Letizia wore a pair of earrings from the company earlier in the week for a film festival appearance. The brooch worn by Sofia is part of the company’s collection inspired by the rose window at Palma Cathedral, and her necklace is part of the collection featuring the Cross of Calatrava.
But I was most intrigued by the other “necklace” worn by Sofia, which appears to be a vintage pocket watch suspended from a black silk cord. There’s engraving on the watch, but most of it isn’t legible in the photos, and I wonder whether it might be in Greek. The first line of the engraving looks to me like it might be “Σοφία,” the Greek spelling of Sofia’s name.
The rest of the jewelry worn by the family was perfectly appropriate for a warm summer evening. Queen Letizia wore a white dress with a light striped pattern, which she echoed with gold and diamond earrings from Gold & Roses.
As she has done often in recent days, Letizia also wore two rings on her left hand: her Dante ring from Coreterno and her oval ring from Karen Hallam.
Princess Leonor wore a vibrant top and matching skirt in shades of sunset yellow and orange for the dinner. Her hair hid her earrings, but we got a good glimpse of an architectural bangle on her right forearm and several rings on each hand.
Infanta Sofia opted for a pink and purple color palette for her dinner dress. She accessorized with a starry gold belt and a gold bangle with a dragonfly design.
