July is the month for celebrating the remarkable ruby, and I’ve decided to declare this the official Ruby Tiara Celebration Week of the summer here at TCJ. We’ll be looking at some fabulous recent ruby tiara appearances from the past few years over the next five days, starting off with a closer look at a moment from just a few weeks ago: the Princess of Orange wearing Queen Emma’s rubies during the Japanese state visit to the Netherlands.

Last week, the King and Queen of the Netherlands were joined by the Princess of Orange for a special meeting of the Council of State, and both ladies wore blue with interesting jewels for the occasion.

Queen Máxima has been in India this week as part of her role with the United Nations, and on Wednesday, she stepped out in a pair of colorful earrings that has been a mainstay in her jewelry box for years.

I had a feeling the Emperor and Empress of Japan’s tour of Europe this month was going to bring out some major jewelry, and I’m happy to report that I was right: we were treated to seven (!) imperial and royal tiaras at tonight’s state banquet in Amsterdam, including a tiara debut!
