This week, the Netherlands marked days of remembrance and celebration, with Queen Máxima wearing a gorgeous pearl to honor the memory of victims of war—and bringing out festive tortoiseshell jewels to celebrate liberation.

In the Netherlands, May 4 is Dodenherdenking, the nation’s Remembrance Day. The celebration officially honors “all victims–civilians and soldiers–who have been killed or murdered in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere else in the world in war situations or during peace-keeping operations since the outbreak of the Second World War.”

For the annual wreath-laying ceremony at the National Monument on Dam Square, Queen Máxima wore a black dress with lace appliqués. UFO No More tells us that it’s from Dolce & Gabbana. She paired it with diamond and pearl jewels, including diamond cluster earrings from the royal vaults.

She also wore a spectacular antique brooch from the family collection. It features a diamond ribbon design from which a large pendant is suspended: a double row of diamonds framing a central pendant.

Here’s a close-up view of Máxima wearing the brooch in Prague in June 2025. She’s worn it with other pendants in place of the pearl as well, including a pear-shaped citrine and Queen Juliana’s enormous pear-shaped aquamarine.

Máxima also wore her diamond wedding bracelet on her left wrist and a pearl ring on her right hand.

After Remembrance Day comes Liberation Day, celebrated annually on May 5. The holiday commemorates the end of the German occupation of the Netherlands during World War II. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima can regularly be spotted at the Liberation Day concert held on and around the Amstel in front of the Royal Theatre Carré, and they’re pictured above arriving for the event yesterday.

For this year’s concert, she wore a rose pink cape-style top with a pair of caramel-brown trousers and matching shoes. ModeKoninginMaxima reports that both pieces are from Natan. She also wore brown statement earrings from her jewelry box and a necklace strung with big tortoiseshell beads.

She also carried a coordinating tortoiseshell acrylic clutch bag, which UFO No More identifies as a Cult Gaia piece. She finished off the look with an additional jewelry piece as well: the diamond and padparadscha sapphire ring that King Willem-Alexander gave her to celebrate the birth of Princess Alexia in 2005.
