King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians had a particularly busy Thursday, visiting a special flower festival in Ghent before jetting off to Sweden for a tiara-filled family celebration.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde arrived at the Floraliën flower festival in Ghent on Thursday, enjoying a special preview of the event before it opened to the public on May 1. The festival is a ten-day event that showcases the work of top national and international florists, ornamental growers, and landscape architects and artists.

Queen Mathilde participated in a special moment during the visit: the blessing of a new Ghent azalea variety that is named after her. She’s pictured here with Carina Van Cauter, the governor of East Flanders, during the blessing.

For the occasion, Mathilde wore a sleeveless dress in a bright shade of coral with colorful flower accents. The dress, per Jelka Van Duyse, comes from Carolina Herrera.

The earrings she wore for the festival visit also had an appropriately floral theme. The gold earrings, shaped like lotus flowers, come from the Belgian jewelry designer Christine Bekaert. The earrings have been in Mathilde’s jewelry box for several years, and she also owns a matching lotus cuff bracelet from the brand.

Mathilde finished off the look with her usual gold bracelet, which is studded with colorful gemstones and stacked with her watch on her left wrist, and her diamond and tanzanite ring, worn on the third finger of her left hand.

The King and Queen left Ghent and flew to Stockholm, where they were guests at a gala dinner celebrating the 80th birthday of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. Philippe and Carl Gustaf are third cousins, both great-great-grandsons of King Oscar II of Sweden.

For the gala dinner, Queen Mathilde wore a vibrant orange evening gown from Armani Privé, paired with the Brabant Laurel Wreath Tiara, her white and yellow diamond earrings, and a diamond necklace from Graff’s Foliage collection.
