Last week, the Dutch royals headed to The Hague for the presentation of the Appeltje van Oranje awards to three worthy recipients, with Queen Máxima sparkling at the podium in pretty pink gemstones from the family collection.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were on hand at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague for the annual presentation of the Appeltje van Oranje awards, which are given to three innovative initiatives in the field of social welfare each year.

This year, the prizes went to Fundashon Pro Bista Korsou (pictured above), an organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with visual impairments in Curaçao; the Takecarebnb Foundation, which connects refugees with Dutch host families; and the Straat Consulaat Foundation, a group working to help homeless people in The Hague find assistance opportunities.

Queen Máxima wore a jumpsuit (Elie Saab, per UFO No More) with diamond and kunzite jewelry from the family vaults for the awards presentation. She added small kunzite drops to a pair of Dutch royal diamond earrings and wore the large kunzite and diamond pendant on a thin chain.

She also wore the cocktail ring that matches the pendant on her right hand, plus the family’s floral diamond and kunzite bracelets on her right wrist.

And there was one more royal surprise during the awards ceremony: an appearance by the King’s mother, Princess Beatrix! She wore a floral blouse and black trousers for the occasion.

Beatrix kept her jewelry simple, wearing textured gold earrings with red accents and a woven gold chain necklace for the ceremony. Beatrix, who was Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 until her abdication in 2013, turned 87 earlier this year. She still makes occasional public appearances, but she spends much of her time at Drakensteyn Castle, the unusual octagonal residence near Baarn that she bought in the late 1950s.
