Yesterday, the Belgian royal family was out in force in Brussels for the county’s annual National Day celebrations, wearing a mix of trendy modern jewels and heirloom family pieces.
On Monday, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were on hand for the traditional concert held on the eve of National Day in Brussels. For the occasion, Mathilde wore a dramatic white jumpsuit from Natan with a sheer cape overlay.
We’ve seen Mathilde wear the same ensemble on previous occasions, including a reception ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and a gala supporting the King Baudouin Foundation later that same year.
Each time she’s worn the jumpsuit, she’s accessorized with a special pair of earrings: diamond and pearl drops that belonged to the King’s late aunt, Queen Fabiola. She wore the earrings again with the outfit for Monday’s concert.
The King and Queen were joined by his sister and brother-in-law, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, at Monday’s concert. For the occasion, Astrid wore a dress in a deep shade of teal with a bow detail at the neck.
She brought out pieces of diamond jewelry from her personal collection: earrings with bright pear-shaped drops and a large brooch with midcentury design details.
On Tuesday, the King and Queen were joined by all four of their children—the Duchess of Brabant, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel, and Princess Eléonore—as they attended a Te Deum mass at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels.
Queen Mathilde was resplendent in a gold guipure lace dress for the occasion, paired with a natural straw hat and coordinating accessories. Per UFO No More, the dress comes from Natan.
Mathilde added sparkle with earrings that have become favorites in recent months. The half hoops are set with small diamonds and edged with twisted gold borders, reminiscent of the kind of work popularized by Gripoix.
Princess Elisabeth wore a classic white floral summer dress from Carolina Herrera for the mass, paired with a big elegant picture hat.
She borrowed a pair of earrings from her mother’s jewelry box to go with the dress. The enamel flower drop earrings come from Muchinskiy Jewelry.
Princess Eléonore wore light blue for the morning mass, reaching for a slouch-waist dress from the brand Toteme. She opted for a smaller hat-band instead of a large hat for the occasion. (Prince Gabriel’s uniform also features a new decoration: his father invested him with the Order of Leopold this week to mark his graduation from the Royal Military Academy.)
Like her older sister, Eléonore also scavenged through her mother’s jewelry box to find a pair of earrings to wear for the mass. These gold (plated) and (faux) pearl earrings come from Carolina Herrera’s Jasmine collection. They’ve been in Mathilde’s jewelry collection for several years.
I’ll wrap up my coverage today with a look at the second big event of the National Day celebrations: the military and civilian parade in Brussels. The King and Queen, wearing the same ensembles as they did for mass, attended the parade with their four children. The Duchess of Brabant (not pictured here) also changed into her uniform for the parade.
They were joined by the King’s siblings for the event: Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, Prince Laurent and Princess Claire, and Princess Delphine and Jim O’Hare.
The only one wearing significant jewelry was Princess Delphine, and I knew you’d want to see her outfit anyway. She wore a necklace featuring her “Love” design logo. The entire outfit is meant to be shaped like a heart.
