Glittering Diamond Fringe Earrings for Princess Astrid in India

In Belgium, one of the royal family’s greatest assets is the King’s dynamic sister, Princess Astrid. Today, we’ve got a look at a favorite pair of earrings from her jewelry box, recently worn during an economic trip abroad.

Princess Astrid recently wrapped up a week-long trip to India, undertaken in her role as one of Belgium’s most important economic ambassadors. On Thursday, she attended a gala reception in Mumbai as part of the economic mission. She was joined at the event by several important Belgian diplomats and business leaders, including Jacques Vandermeiren, the CEO of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges; Maxime Prevot, Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Matthias Diependaele, the Minister-President of Flanders; and Didier Vanderhasselt, Belgium’s ambassador to India.

During the gala, Princess Astrid, shown here with Ambassador Vanderhasselt, also invested two new Commanders of the Order of the Crown. The order, established at the end of the nineteenth century, is one of Belgium’s highest honors. The decoration is awarded for services rendered to the Belgian state, including those offered by foreign nationals. Princess Astrid bestowed the honor on Els Reynaers, Head of the Environment Department at M.V. Kini & Co., and Harihar Subramanian, Managing Director at Colruyt Group India & Partner at Korys India.

For the dinner, Astrid wore a red and silver ensemble. UFO No More tells us that her red lace floral dress comes from Safiyaa. She wore silver shoes and carried a matching silver handbag.

Astrid carried the silver-toned theme through to her jewelry, wearing several prominent diamond pieces with the outfit. These included her own diamond fringe earrings.

The earrings, which feature a lens-shaped diamond cluster stud and a trio of diamond fringe pendants, have been staples in Astrid’s jewelry wardrobe for a decade.

She has worn the earrings both with full gala attire, including tiaras and decorations, and with more subdued evening looks. Here, she pairs the earrings with Queen Elisabeth’s Art Deco Bandeau during the German state visit to Belgium in the spring of 2016.

More recently, we saw Astrid wear the earrings during another trip abroad: the economic mission to Australia in October 2023.

For the gala event in Mumbai, Astrid also wore a diamond ring with an XO pattern on her right hand. And you’ll also spot even more sparkle on the belt of her dress.

Here’s a better look. Astrid added one of her own sparkling brooches as an adornment on the dress. We’ve seen her wear this large, midcentury-style brooch before, notably during an economic visit to Japan in December 2022.
