Few people in Britain wear jewelry in a more interesting way than the Duchess of Gloucester. Today, I’ve got a closer look at the jewels she brought along for a visit to a basketry showcase in London this week.

On Tuesday, the Duchess headed to the Dutch Church in the Broad Street Ward of the City of London for a special event showcasing British basketmaking. The event, hosted by the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers, was designed to demonstrate “the best of basketry, with talented growers and makers from across the country.”

For the outing, Birgitte wore a burgundy coat with a matching sweater, accessorized with gold jewelry. To her collar, she attached a gold pin in the shape of a basket. The pin’s design comes from the coat of arms of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers, a livery company of the City of London that was founded in 1569. Birgitte has served as the Company’s Honorary Liveryman since 1991.

The Duchess also added some other interesting jewelry pieces to her outfit, including small gold hoop earrings that appear to be set with small diamonds and a fascinating necklace.

The gold necklace features a locket charm in the shape of an antique book. Birgitte layered it with a petite gold chain pin, which she placed on the rolled neck of her sweater. The combination is a really fascinating take on the “layered necklace” look which is so popular with royal ladies across Europe. And that little book locket is so interesting!
