The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay headed to Scotland on Tuesday, and Catherine brought along some of her favorite sapphires for a day of engagements in Stirling and Falkirk.

The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay—as the Prince and Princess of Wales are known when in Scotland—headed north of the border on Tuesday for a day of engagements in Stirling and Falkirk focused on Scottish heritage and community. The day’s program included a visit to Radical Weavers, a handweaving studio and independent charity dedicated to preserving traditions and supporting the community in Stirling. Above, William and Catherine are pictured arriving at the National Curling Academy, which is also located in Stirling.

The royal couple tested their curling skills during the visit, of course. They also met with members of the Team GB and Paralympics GB curling teams ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy.

For the day of engagements, Kate wore Scottish blue, arriving in a special coat made for her by Chris Kerr. Rebecca English reported that the cloth for the coat was woven by Johnstons of Elgin. Kate worked with the company on the tartan fabric design, “a sign of her determination to celebrate British textiles and design.”

Inside the curling academy, Kate took off the coat and revealed a piece of knitwear: a patterned sweater vest.

Catherine matched her jewelry accessories to her blue tartan coat, choosing pieces from her extensive collection of sapphire jewels for the occasion. She wore her petite diamond and sapphire cluster earrings, which are good companions for her famous sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

Kate has been wearing the earrings, which feature sapphire and diamond cluster pendants, for more than a decade. She first began appearing in the earrings in the summer of 2011, shortly after the royal wedding. Later, she revealed that the earrings were part of a larger suite of jewelry that also includes a matching necklace. You can see good close-ups of the pieces in my article from her appearance in the set at the Commonwealth Day service in 2022.

Catherine has worn the sapphires together several times in recent years, including a memorable appearance during the gentlemen’s final at Wimbledon in July 2022.

Kate wore her iconic sapphire engagement ring for the day of engagements in Scotland as well, stacking it with her gold wedding band, her diamond eternity band, and the sapphire and diamond eternity ring that she began wearing in 2024.
