All eyes have been on the British royals in recent weeks, and on Sunday, the ladies of the family wore sparkling earrings and brooches to attend a church service in Scotland.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla were joined by numerous members of the family as they attended a Sunday service at Crathie Kirk near the Balmoral estate this weekend. Regardless of developments across the pond, the summer schedule appears to be continuing without disruption in Scotland. Queen Camilla wore a favorite green and red ensemble with tartan accents for the service, paired with her favorite diamond and pearl drop earrings and a special Edwardian brooch.
The brooch, made of gold and set with seed pearls, is a presentation brooch from the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The piece features the numbers 1902 in interlocking script, topped by an enamel-accented crown. Numerous examples of the style were made. This photograph shows another matching brooch, which was sold at auction in 2023.
Camilla has been wearing the brooch for years, including several appearances before her husband’s accession in 2022 and their own coronation in 2023. One of her most recent outings in the brooch took place during another church service, this time at St. Mary Magdalene near the Sandringham estate in January.
The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay (as the Prince and Princess of Wales are known when in Scotland) also attended the church service with their children. Catherine wore a tweed jacket with a white blouse and a brown hat from her wardrobe archives, plus a new pair of statement earrings.
Eagle-eyed royal watchers on social media have identified the earrings as the Stone Chandelier Earrings from the brand Lauren Ralph Lauren, one of the company’s more affordable diffusion lines. Kate has worn pieces from the family of brands often over the years, including a recent appearance at the Commonwealth Games.
The Princess Royal was joined by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, for the church service. She wore a green tweed jacket with pearl earrings and a special brooch: the badge of the Royal Scots, a former regiment that is now part of the amalgamated Royal Regiment of Scotland. Anne was Colonel-in-Chief of the former regiment and is now patron of the Royal Scots Regimental Association.
Appropriately, Anne wears the Royal Scots brooch often for events in Scotland. We saw her wear it most recently during a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh at the end of June.
Anne and Tim were joined for the drive to and from church by her brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and their daughter, Lady Louise. Sophie wore a pair of earrings that have become favorites in recent months: the Nodo earrings by Giulia Barela.
Sophie has worn the earrings on more than a dozen occasions over the past year. One of my favorite of those outings came in May, when she wore them for a carriage driving meet during the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
