Last Thursday, while the Princess of Wales and the Crown Princess of Sweden were turning heads at the Royal Variety Performance, two more British royal ladies were sparkling in diamonds, emeralds, and pearls in another part of London.

Yesterday, Princess Aiko of Japan celebrated her birthday—which gives us an excellent opportunity for an updated conversation about the tiara and jewels she will (or won’t!) eventually receive to wear for gala occasions.

This evening, Britain’s future King and Queen were joined by Sweden’s future monarch and consort for a celebration of the British entertainment industry in London—and there were flashes of sparkle on display!

On Thursday morning, there was a royal family reunion at Windsor Castle, with both British and Swedish royal jewelry on display.

A century ago this month, two unique royal weddings were held in London. The first transformed a princess-turned-lady back into a princess—and the second, which we’re discussing today, did exactly the opposite!
