On Tuesday, the Dutch royals welcomed the Sultan of Oman to Amsterdam with an elegant arrival ceremony and a glittering state banquet.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima greeted Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, the Sultan and Prime Minister of Oman, to Amsterdam with a traditional welcome ceremony in Dam Square on Tuesday morning. For the occasion, Queen Máxima wore a black and white ensemble that hearkens back to the heyday of Dior in the 1950s. The jacket has been in her closet for more than two decades. She memorably wore it to the wedding of Prince Friso and Princess Mabel in April 2004.

Máxima’s black picture hat framed a classic pair of earrings. These feature large button pearls with a slender diamond halo, from which substantial pear-shaped pearl drops are suspended.

On Tuesday evening, the family hosted a banquet in honor of the Sultan at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were joined by their eldest daughter, the Princess of Orange, for the dinner. Both Máxima and Amalia wore gala gowns with decorations and jewelry for the occasion. Máxima brought out a gown she’d previously worn for the royal wedding of the Crown Prince of Jordan, while Amalia opted for a lilac-hued gown from Safiyaa. Both women also wore Omani decorations: the Order of Oman for Queen Máxima and the Order of the Renaissance for Amalia.
(There was also at least one more jewel-wearing member of the extended family there: Princess Viktoria of Bourbon-Parma, who wore the Sapphire Necklace Tiara.)

Queen Máxima accessorized with fabulous pearls and diamonds from the family vaults. She paired the second setting of the Württemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara with diamond and pearl drop earrings and a grand five-stranded pearl necklace. She also wore a bangle bracelet with a large pearl and diamond cluster on her right wrist.

Princess Amalia continues to show that she’s the most exciting jewelry-wearer of her generation so far. She wore the tiara, earrings, brooch, and bracelet from Queen Emma’s Mellerio Ruby Parure. She also wore a sentimental jewel on her left hand: the ruby and diamond ring given by her father to her mother to celebrate her birth in December 2003.

This is actually the second time we’ve seen Amalia “wearing” the Mellerio Ruby Tiara. When she turned eighteen in 2021, this image of a young Amalia wearing the tiara in October 2012 was released. It’s so special to see her finally getting to properly wear the jewel!
