Prince Amedeo, the nephew of King Philippe of the Belgians, married his longtime girlfriend, the Italian journalist Elisabetta “Lili” Rosboch von Wolkenstein, on July 5, 2014. The wedding ceremony was held at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere in Rome. Following the wedding, the Belgian court has referred to the couple as “Prince and Princess Amedeo of Belgium,” though they’ve also simply called Lili “Princess Elisabetta.”

On her wedding day, Lili wore a gorgeous gown of lace and point d’esprit tulle made by Valentino, along with a matching veil. (The shape of the veil looked to be partly inspired by the antique nineteenth-century lace veil worn by Queen Paola, Princess Astrid, Queen Mathilde, and Princess Claire.)

Lili anchored the veil with a tiara loaned to her by Queen Paola, her husband’s grandmother. Queen Elisabeth’s Art Deco Bandeau, a modern diamond tiara, originally belonged to Queen Elisabeth of Belgium (1876-1965), the wife of King Albert I. Elisabeth gave the tiara to her daughter-in-law, Queen Astrid; in turn, Astrid’s widower, King Leopold III, eventually gave the jewel to his daughter-in-law, Queen Paola.

Queen Paola has twice loaned the bandeau to members of the family to wear as a bridal diadem. Queen Mathilde wore the tiara on her wedding day in December 1999, and Princess Elisabetta wore it in July 2014. More recently, the tiara has been worn by Lili’s mother-in-law, Princess Astrid.

Lili, pictured here arriving for the wedding on the arm of her father, film producer Ettore Rosboch von Wolkenstein, paired modern pearl and diamond earrings with the tiara for the ceremony. The geometric shape of the diamond setting neatly echoed the design motifs of the bandeau tiara.
