Ten years ago, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden arrived for the Nobel Prize celebrations in Stockholm wearing a sparkling diamond tiara—and some very important royal sapphires!

As a December baby (who celebrated her birthday yesterday, actually!), I’m a big fan of my light blue birthstones, the vibrant blue topaz (or zircon) and the dreamy purple-hued tanzanite. Today, I’m spotlighting a suite of royal jewels that many believe incorporates tanzanites in its design: Queen Maxima’s lovely blue gem and moonstone necklace and its coordinating earrings.

For the Nobel Prize celebrations in recent years, Queen Silvia of Sweden has generally worn one of two tiaras: the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Tiara, or today’s sparkler, Queen Sofia’s Tiara. Here’s a look at all the dazzling diamonds she wore for the Nobels 10 years ago!
