To help her celebrate, here’s a look at one of her jewels that is still worn regularly today: her Golden Jubilee Necklace. But although the piece has had an important, glittering royal history, its origins are muddled in political infighting and gossip. Scandalous!

For those of you who aren’t residents of (most of) Canada: Victoria Day is a Canadian federal holiday that celebrates both Queen Victoria’s birthday (which is actually Tuesday) and the official Canadian birthday of the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. To mark the occasion, we’re taking a look at one of the Queen’s most Canadian pieces of jewelry: her diamond maple leaf brooch.
For a royal house that has reigned over a country for more than a century, the Belgian royal family has a surprisingly small number of tiaras in their vaults. There are several reasons for this—pieces have been sold, inherited by women who married into other families, etc.—but the family has managed to hang on to one of their sparkliest heirloom pieces: the Nine Provinces Tiara, which is worn by the nation’s queen.
As we’ve seen over the past few weeks, the Duchess of Cambridge’s jewelry box is brimming with jewels set with precious and semi-precious stones. But she’s also been loaned several pieces of jewelry by her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II. Today’s diamond chandelier earrings are among those borrowed jewels.
