Sparkling Royal Jewels From Around the World

Our tour of the Queen’s colorful evening gowns lands in 1976 today, when she and the Duke of Edinburgh made an important royal visit to the White House in Washington, D.C.

Our rainbow-themed journey through the Queen’s wardrobe continues today with a sparkling orange evening gown—and the spectacular sapphires and diamonds she wore with it!

Though her evening gowns today are largely made in shades of white, ivory, silver, and gold, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has worn a rainbow’s worth of colors for gala occasions over the course of her reign. This week, we’ll be looking at some of her colorful gowns and the jewels accompanying them, beginning with this appearance in Prague in 1996.

For a tiny grand duchy, Luxembourg has impressively extensive royal vaults! The family’s jewelry collection includes pieces set with nearly every gemstone, including multiple sapphire jewels. Today, we’ve got a closer look at a sapphire-studded appearance from Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie back in 2018.

In the last months of her husband’s reign as King of the Hellenes, Queen Friederike (or Frederica, or Frederika, depending on your preferred spelling) of Greece and her younger daughter, Princess Irene, made a trip to the United States. Today, we’re featuring a glittering appearance from the beginning of that royal tour, including an astonishing sapphire owned by more than one royal woman.
