Sparkling Royal Jewels From Around the World

Our look back at the jewels worn for the royal wedding celebrations of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands continues with two events held 20 years ago today: a pair of concert celebrations in Amsterdam.

Twenty years ago today, the eyes of the world were on Amsterdam. The Prince of Orange, heir to the throne of the Netherlands, was preparing to marry his Argentine fiancée, Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti, in a lavish three-day celebration. We’re looking back at all three days of glittering events this week, beginning with a sparkling royal dinner at the Royal Palace on January 31.

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is one of the most exuberant royals in Europe, and she favors statement jewelry pieces as big as her personality. Some of her favorite fun and festive earrings feature a tassel design, and today we’re highlighting two pairs: one set with garnets and diamonds, and the other set with diamonds, rubies, and pearls.
