Glitter and Gold for the Princess of Monaco at the Red Cross Gala

The gold and diamonds were glittering mightily this weekend in Monaco, where Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene hit the dance floor during the 77th Red Cross Gala in Monte Carlo.

The Prince and Princess of Monaco stepped out on Saturday at the annual Gala de la Croix-Rouge Monégasque. The ball is one of the most important yearly fundraising events in the principality, bringing in crucial donations to support the Red Cross of Monaco. Prince Albert II has been the organization’s president since 1982, taking over a role previously held by his mother, Princess Grace.

Princess Charlene was clearly inspired by her late mother-in-law in her styling for this year’s gala. She wore a pageboy hairstyle reminiscent of the one that Grace Kelly wore when she met Prince Rainier III in the 1950s. Her golden gown, a pleated Elie Saab creation, also has echoes of the glamorous fashions of Old Hollywood.

The gold theme continued through to Charlene’s choice of earrings for the event: gold, diamond, tourmaline, and morganite earrings from Ole Lynggaard’s Gipsy Collection.

Royals from around Europe are big fans of Ole Lynggaard pieces, with the firm’s jewels found in the collections of Queen Mary of Denmark, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, and Princess Sofia of Sweden.

As usual, Charlene only wore one other piece of important jewelry with her ensemble: her diamond engagement ring from Repossi. The ring features a pear-shaped diamond that is estimated at three carats.

There was one more member of the princely family at the gala this year: Camille Gottlieb, the younger daughter of Prince Albert’s sister, Princess Stéphanie. She matched the overall theme, wearing a gown in a creamy shade of pale gold for the occasion.
