The Grimaldis were out and about in Monte Carlo on Thursday, with Princess Charlene wearing spectacular diamonds to celebrate the International Military Sports Council.

Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco arrived at the Fairmont Monte Carlo on Thursday for the gala evening of the 81st general assembly of the International Military Sports Council, or CISM. The council was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Brussels. Its primary aim is to promote sport activity and physical education between armed forces as a means to foster world peace.

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene were joined at the gala by several members of the extended Grimaldi family. Albert’s nephew, Louis Ducruet, was present with his wife, Marie. Also on hand for the dinner was Melanie-Antoinette de Massy, granddaughter of Prince Rainier III’s sister, Princess Antoinette. Louis has a degree in sports management and has worked as a recruiter and advisor for professional football teams, while Melanie-Antoinette is president of the Monegasque Tennis Federation.

During the gala, both Albert and Charlene were recognized by the council for their contributions to sport. Princess Charlene was elevated to the rank of Grand Officer of CISM’s Order of Merit. Here, Prince Albert presents her with the order’s insignia.

Prince Albert also received an honor during the gala: he was made an honorary member of CISM, becoming the first head of state to receive that distinction. Both Albert and Charlene have a long history of dedication to the world of sport. Both are Olympic athletes themselves (bobsledding for him, swimming for her), and Albert has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1985.

For the gala, Charlene wore a dramatic black jumpsuit from Elie Saab, featuring a sheer cape-style overlay embellished with sequins.

Her major accessories for the night were her pear-shaped diamond engagement ring, a Repossi creation, and a pair of lovely diamond climber-style earrings from Maison Tabbah.

The earrings have been particular favorites of Charlene’s recently. We also saw her wear them at the Bal de Noël in Monte Carlo last December. On that occasion, she paired them with a soft pleated gown from Jenny Packham.
