The Olympic Games always provide us with a delightful selection of royal sightings in the crowds as they cheer on their nation’s athletes to victory. Today, I’ve got a look at three of the ensembles Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has chosen to watch the Dutch speed skaters race to victory—predictably, including a whole lot of orange and gold!

The King and Queen of the Netherlands and the Princess of Orange have attended numerous events in Milan during this month’s Winter Olympic Games. The Netherlands is a speed skating powerhouse, with 28 of the 38 TeamNL athletes at the games competing in the sport. They’ve already won numerous medals, including Jutta Leerdam’s Olympic record-breaking gold medal performance in the women’s 1000m competition and Xandra Velzeboer’s new world record on her way to a gold medal in the women’s 500m.
Here’s a look at the royals arriving at the Milano Speed Skating Stadium ahead of the men’s 5000m competition on February 7. Naturally, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and Princess Amalia all wore TeamNL gear from Fila and Denham in bright shades of orange. (Love the King’s varsity jacket!) Máxima layered her scarf and jacket over a Massimo Dutti sweater and skirt for the occasion. They weren’t the only royals in the stands for the event—they greeted the King and Queen of Norway with affectionate hugs when they arrived.

When choosing her earrings, Máxima picked up on the brown tones of the outfit, wearing a pair of brown statement earrings from her jewelry box.

Princess Amalia accessorized with a trendy pair of gold double knot earrings (similar to these, I think) and a crystal and gold ear cuff.

On February 9, the King and Queen were in the stands to watch Jutta Leerdam and Femke Kok skate their way to gold and silver in the women’s 1000m competition. Willem-Alexander brought his varsity jacket to the stadium again, and Máxima wore her TeamNL puffer and pashmina.

Máxima accessorized with a pair of gold hoop earrings with a bamboo-inspired design. The earrings come from Cartier, and they’ve been in her jewelry box for more than a decade.

Máxima also wore the earrings when the royal couple headed to the TeamNL House for the celebration of Leerdam’s and Kok’s medals. This photograph shows that, on her right hand, she also wore her emerald-cut diamond ring. The jewel was a gift from Willem-Alexander to celebrate the birth of their youngest daughter, Princess Ariane, in 2007. (Scroll down here for a close-up.)

Wax ‘n Máx were back at the stadium again on February 10 to watch the mixed team relay short-track speed skating competition. This time, Máxima wore a camel-colored sweater and trousers from Max Mara with her TeamNL gear. Layered over her badge was a sautoir-length necklace with a very interesting black-and-gold pendant in the shape of a fish.

The Dutch skaters didn’t bring home the gold in this year’s relay, but Máxima brought plenty of gold along with her to the stadium, wearing a pair of bold golden button earrings and a special gold bracelet. The jewel, which is set with cabochon gemstones, is engraved with the names of her husband and daughters.
