Queen Máxima of the Netherlands dazzled in enormous diamonds last week in Suriname, but before she headed home, she gave us one more glittering gala jewelry moment, this time featuring gorgeous green emeralds.
On December 2, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands hosted a return concert at the Thalia Theater in Paramaribo to thank their host, President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, for her hospitality during their state visit to Suriname.
For the concert, Queen Máxima wore a green Indian-inspired dress by one of her favorite couturiers, Jan Taminiau, paired with gold accessories. Josine Droogendijk shares that Máxima bought the dress’s fabric during the 2007 state visit to India, and Taminiau made the sari-inspired gown for her in 2019. She pinned the miniature ribbon of her new Surinamese decoration, the Honorary Order of the Yellow Star, to the gown’s neckline near her left shoulder.
With the dramatic dress, Máxima wore a combination of personal and heirloom jewelry pieces set with diamonds and emeralds. Her earrings, which feature pear-shaped emerald and diamond cluster studs and pendants, come from her own jewelry box. These can be worn in different lengths, but Máxima chose the complete setting for this occasion. Princess Amalia memorably wore the pendants as stud earrings on Prinsjesdag in 2022.
The grand diamond and emerald necklace that Máxima wore comes from the Dutch royal vaults. It’s part of the family’s emerald parure, and it features a large central emerald and diamond cluster flanked by twisting diamond and emerald elements. The emerald suite was given to Queen Wilhelmina by Queen Emma in 1899. The set includes a unique tiara that can be worn in emerald, pearl, or all-diamond settings. The parure been treasured by members of the family for more than a century, and Máxima has worn the jewels particularly often during her royal marriage.
Máxima being Máxima, she also wore bracelets on both wrists and rings on both hands. Here’s a look at her orange diamond engagement ring and her wedding band on her left hand, with a pair of delicate gold chain bracelets and a diamond and emerald bangle on her wrist.
And here, on her right wrist, she wears a gold bangle with diamond tips and another gorgeous emerald and diamond bracelet, as well as a large cocktail ring set with diamonds and a big emerald cabochon.
