Last week, the King and Queen of Sweden headed to Canada for a state visit, with Queen Silvia bringing along some fascinating modern gala jewelry for a pair of black-tie dinners.

On November 18, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden arrived in Canada for a state visit, having been invited by the Governor General, Mary Simon. Unfortunately, Simon has been dealing with ongoing health issues, so the Chief Justice of Canada, Richard Wagner, stepped in to her place for the visit.
On the first evening of the visit, a gala dinner was given at Rideau Hall in Ottawa in honor of the Swedish royal visitors. From left to right in this formal photograph taken ahead of the dinner are Prime Minister Mark Carney and his wife, Diana Fox Carney; the King and Queen; Chief Justice Wagner and his wife, Justine Mandeville; and Whit Fraser, husband of Governor General Simon.
During his speech at the dinner, the King reminded those in attendance that he had a very personal connection to the location: his great-grandfather, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, once served as Canada’s Governor General, and he lived at Rideau Hall from 1911 to 1916.

For the black-tie dinner, Queen Silvia wore an elegant blue velvet evening gown with beaded floral embellishments on the neckline, sleeves, and skirt. UFO No More shares that the dress comes from the brand Maknam. Silvia pinned her husband’s Royal Family Order, with its distinctive blue ribbon, to the gown.

With the vibrant dress, Silvia wore a suite of modern diamond jewelry from her personal collection. The suite, which includes earrings, a brooch, a necklace, and a bracelet, features pear-shaped and marquise-cut diamonds set in yellow gold. Silvia wore all four pieces from the set with this gala look, just as she did for another black-tie gala dinner in Mexico City last year.

As she did in Mexico, Silvia layered another delicate necklace with tiny round diamond pendants underneath the larger diamond necklace. She also wore bracelets on both wrists, including a Cartier Love Bracelet.

On the second evening of the visit, the King and Queen hosted a traditional reciprocal dinner for their hosts. The event was held at another iconic Canadian location, the Fairmont Château Laurier Hotel. This event was also a black-tie occasion, with King Carl Gustaf wearing a tuxedo and Queen Silvia in a vibrant purple-pink evening gown from the brand Thalia. Hidden under her pashmina here, once again, is the King’s Royal Family Order.

The wrap gown features a little bling of its own, courtesy of a crystal button, but Silvia upped the ante with a fascinating modern demi-parure made of gold, diamonds, amethysts, and carved rock crystal. UFO No More shares that the necklace and earrings come from Beauty Gems, a jewelry firm based in Thailand. The company has made several pieces for Silvia over the years, and they’re also the ones who converted one of her necklaces into a wedding tiara for her daughter-in-law, Princess Sofia.

Silvia once again added more sparkle to her outfit with stacked bracelets on both wrists, including a gold Cartier Love Bracelet, several slender gold bangles, and two pearl bracelets.
