On Wednesday, the Princess Royal headed to Dublin, where she wore a favorite brooch for a visit with the President and First Lady of Ireland.

Princess Anne traveled to Ireland on Wednesday and headed straight to Aras an Uachtarain, the official residence of the President of Ireland, to call on President Michael Higgins and his wife, Sabina Coyne Higgins.

For the presidential audience, Princess Anne wore an ensemble in different shades of green, accessorized with classic pearls and a favorite gold and diamond brooch.

Here’s a closer look at Anne’s accessories, including the pen she used to sign her name in the residence’s guest book. Her pearl earrings are classic studs, and her brooch, pinned to the collar of her light green jacket, is in the shape of a horse.

Here’s a slightly clearer view of the brooch, which shows the detail on the horse, including the diamond-set mane and tail. Anne wears this brooch very often for equestrian related events. Above, she wears the jewel at the Cheltenham Festival in March 2024.

Why did Anne choose a horse-themed brooch for a visit with the President of Ireland? Because after leaving the president’s residence, she headed off to attend the official opening day of the 150th Dublin Horse Show.

I thought, before I wrap up today, that you might like a closer view of the turquoise beads worn for the audience by President Higgins’s wife, Sabina Coyne Higgins. Sabina is a passionate activist who is particularly dedicated to anti-war causes, as demonstrated by one of her buttons. The other colorful pin on her blouse is the logo of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals initiative.
