The Queen’s Nizam Rose Brooches
These three rose brooch were originally part of a diamond floral tiara. The tiara and its coordinating necklace were wedding gifts from the Nizam of Hyderabad. He allowed Princess Elizabeth to choose pieces from Cartier for her wedding present—a surefire way to make sure that she liked the gift!

Floral brooches made up a major part of Queen Elizabeth II’s jewelry collection, but the brooch we’re discussing today—her Coral Rose Brooch—put a new twist on the design, presenting a naturalistic form in vivid color.

These brooches are sister pieces, made by Cartier in the 1920s and 1930s for Dame Margaret Greville. In 1942, she bequeathed them to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who in turn gave them to her elder daughter, Princess Elizabeth, as a 21st birthday present in April 1947.

The Spectacular Cartier Brooch that Helped the Queen Mother Celebrate VE Day
This eye-catching jewel, made of platinum and set with aquamarines and diamonds, was one of the many gifts acquired by her husband from Cartier in London. Bertie, then Duke of York, bought the brooch for Elizabeth in 1935, in the last year of his father’s reign, before the tumult that catapulted them on to the throne in December 1936.

The Queen Mother’s Cartier Lily Brooch
This jewel, which some have nicknamed the “foot-long brooch” because of its unusual length, actually measures just under seven inches long. The piece was made in 1939 by Cartier, a favorite jewelry firm of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom.

Let’s wrap up July with one more look at the month’s blazing crimson birthstone, the romantic ruby.
