Today, the people of Monaco celebrate the principality’s National Day. In honor of the holiday, we’re taking a look at some of the royal jewels from the collection of the late Princess Grace that are now being worn by her descendants.

Princess Grace’s jewels now largely belong to the Palais Princier collection. They’re often displayed in exhibitions around the world, sometimes alongside jewels worn by Princess Charlotte and Princess Charlene. But several of the late princess’s pieces are also worn occasionally by her daughters and their family members.

When Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier III of Monaco in April 1956, she received numerous jewels fit for a princess. Among them was this classic diamond festoon necklace made by Cartier. Grace debuted the necklace for the first time at the opera gala held the night before her religious wedding ceremony. More recently, the necklace has been worn by both Princess Caroline (who wears it above for the National Day gala in 2006) and Charlotte Casiraghi (who wore it during her wedding celebrations in 2019).

Princess Grace’s wedding gift haul also included a convertible ruby and diamond tiara/necklace from the Société des Bains de Mer. She wore the jewel in both configurations, and she also used the individual ornaments as brooches. No member of the family has yet been photographed in the tiara setting of the jewel, but Princess Caroline has worn the brooches on more than one occasion. Here, she wears them at the Red Cross Ball in 2005.

The Van Cleef & Arpels Pearl Suite
Prince Rainier presented Princess Grace with a classic demi-parure of diamond and pearl jewels from Van Cleef & Arpels as a wedding gift in April 1956. She wore pieces from the set, which includes earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, and a ring, throughout her life. Princess Caroline wore the pearls at the Rose Ball in 2019.

The Ruby Cabochon and Diamond Earrings
Over the years, Prince Rainier added even more ruby jewels to Princess Grace’s collection. Among these were a pair of stunning diamond and ruby cabochon earrings. In recent years, the earrings have been worn by both Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, who wears them above at the Red Cross Ball in 2005.

Before her marriage, Grace Kelly acquired these gold jewels from Cartier’s grain de cafe collection. She continued to wear them after becoming a princess. Today, they’re worn by Princess Caroline, who notably chose them for the official presentation of her nephew and niece, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, in January 2015.

The Diamond Anniversary Earrings
These lovely diamond floral earrings were a first anniversary present from Prince Rainier to Princess Grace in April 1957. The earrings, made by Van Cleef & Arpels, feature a variety of different diamond cuts. These have been worn on multiple occasions by Princess Caroline, who wears them above at the Rose Ball in 2012. They’ve also been worn by Caroline’s daughter-in-law, Tatiana Casiraghi.

As mentioned above, Tatiana Casiraghi wore Princess Grace’s Diamond Anniversary Earrings for the Rose Ball in 2019. She also wore a second piece of Grace’s jewelry: her diamond lattice bracelet. The jewel, made by Van Cleef & Arpels, was one of Grace’s wedding gifts from the people of Monaco in April 1956.
