Princess Benedikte will celebrate her birthday in a few weeks, and today, we’re including her in our week-long Sparkling Spotlight birthday highlight! Here’s a closer look at the tiara and jewels she wore for an important family wedding in 2015.
On June 13, 2015, Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, sister of the Queen of Denmark and cousin of the King of Sweden, attended the wedding of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden in Stockholm. She’s pictured here with another Swedish royal cousin, Prince Andreas of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
For the wedding, Benedikte wore a gown in a light shade of spring green with lovely embroidered details on the skirt. She wore the sash and star of her highest Swedish royal decoration, the Order of the Polar Star, as well as two Danish decorations, the Order of the Dannebrog and the Royal Family Order of her late father, King Frederik IX.
Princess Benedikte’s mother, the late Queen Ingrid of Denmark, was born a Princess of Sweden, which means that Benedikte was a granddaughter of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. Through her mother, Benedikte has inherited several pieces of Swedish royal jewelry. Among them is the Star and Pearl Tiara, a nineteenth-century jewel which originally belonged to Queen Sofia of Sweden.
For this wedding, Benedikte paired the tiara with another set of Swedish diamond stars. These belonged to her great-grandmother, Queen Victoria of Sweden. They can be worn as brooches, earrings, hair ornaments, or even pendants on a necklace. On this occasion, Benedikte used them to secure her order sash.
Benedikte also used a second pearl brooch to secure the back of the sash. And she added additional pieces of diamond and pearl jewelry, including diamond and pearl drop earrings, as well as the diamond necklace that was once part of a sautoir that belonged to her paternal grandmother, Queen Alexandrine of Denmark.
She finished off the look with rings on both hands, as well as bracelets on both wrists. She stacked her gold family bracelet with her watch on her left wrist, and she added a modern diamond and gold bracelet to her right wrist.
