In some royal families, jewels can be both beautiful and contentious. Today’s tiara is a magnificent royal tiara with a rather complicated and even difficult story: the Cartier tiara owned by Queen Elisabeth of Belgium.

We’re very used to seeing Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom wearing pearls; she dons diamond and pearl earrings and a three-stranded pearl necklace for virtually all of her daytime engagements. She also has numerous sets of pearls suitable for evening use, including today’s suite of diamond and pearl jewelry, given to her by the Emir of Qatar.

Not all royal families have a tiara in their collections that’s fit for a superhero, but I think Wonder Woman could borrow the Art Deco-style emerald tiara from Luxembourg in a heartbeat.
