One of my favorite formal events each May is the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s annual gala, which attracts a bevy of celebrities and beautiful people—and royals, too! (Diana, Princess of Wales made a memorable Met Gala appearance in 1996, and Princess Beatrice of York and Queen Rania of Jordan have also graced the gala’s red carpet.) This year’s gala has been postponed until September, but in the meantime, I thought I’d do a little throwback to one of my favorite Met Gala looks of all time: the purple and gold ensemble worn by actress Lucy Liu in 2007.
Not long before their 2011 wedding in Monaco, Prince Albert II and Charlene Wittstock made a glittering gala appearance in France. For amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS Gala, held during the Cannes Film Festival ten years ago today, the couple looked every inch the descendants of classic Hollywood.
Ten years ago today, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom arrived at a state dinner held during a momentous diplomatic occasion: the first visit of a reigning British monarch to Ireland in a century. Here’s a closer look at the jewels (and the symbol-packed dress!) that the Queen wore for the dinner at Dublin Castle.
