On Thursday, the Queen of Denmark made a sparkling appearance at a fashion gala dinner in Copenhagen, wearing a gorgeous pair of diamond waterfall earrings and an eye-catching emerald ring.

Queen Mary of Denmark arrived at the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen on Thursday ahead of a celebration dinner at the conclusion of the Global Fashion Summit. The summit, held in Denmark’s capital over three days last week, is described by its parent organization, the Global Fashion Agenda, as “an esteemed international forum on sustainability in fashion.” They elaborate, “Fashion is one of the world’s most dynamic and influential industries. With creativity and ingenuity at its core–and fundamental connections with other industries along the value chain–fashion holds the power to affect change everywhere.”

Queen Mary took the summit’s message of sustainability to heart, wearing a green jacquard skirt from H&M’s Conscious Collection, which features clothing made of materials chosen with sustainability in mind. The skirt has been in her closet since 2018.

With the green and white ensemble, Mary wore a pair of earrings that have also been in her jewelry box for the better part of a decade. The waterfall-style diamond earrings are set in white gold.

The earrings were sold by the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen in December 2016, fetching a price of 40,000 DKK ($6,200). Though many of the jewelry pieces sold by the firm are antique or vintage, this pair of earrings is a more recent creation, made around 2010.

We can’t know for certain that Mary was the person who bought the diamonds in the auction, but she made her first public appearance in the earrings six months later. She debuted the diamonds in Oslo during the 80th birthday celebrations for King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway in May 2017.

Mary has worn the earrings often in the years since, and in April 2025, she loaned them to her elder daughter, Princess Isabella, to wear for an important event: a gala concert celebrating her 18th birthday.

Mary also added a few more jewelry pieces to her look for the fashion summit dinner on Thursday. She wore a gold Cartier love bracelet on her right wrist and a pair of diamond-encrusted bands on her left hand. (An upgraded wedding set, I think.) And on her right hand, she wore a stunning emerald and diamond ring that carried the “green” theme of the ensemble through to her jewelry accessories.

The ring is a bespoke piece from Annikat, and it’s been in Mary’s collection for more than ten years. She owns several pieces from the brand, including a pair of diamond bracelets made to look like wings. She wore the bracelets most recently (with the diamond waterfall earrings) for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

There will be more to come from me today, including a look later on at the jewelry that the Princess of Wales wears during today’s visit to Italy. There’s also a free Hidden Gems newsletter coming your way later this morning, with interesting news about the sale of a major private collection of museum-quality Fabergé pieces.
