The Princess Royal has a personal jewelry collection larger than that of some small monarchies, and last week in Northern Ireland, she wore a brooch that appears to be a new addition to her jewelry box.
On Thursday, Princess Anne arrived in County Fermanagh for a series of engagements, including visits to Brooke House Health and Wellbeing Centre and Castle Archdale War Museum. She also visited a pair of Commonwealth War Graves Commission sites, where she met with Royal Air Force Air Cadets. The BBC reports that this trip was Anne’s 65th visit to Northern Ireland. Her first, a visit to Belfast, took place in 1961 when she was just ten years old.
For the occasion, Anne wore a dress and matching jacket in a bright shade of sky blue, paired with navy shoes and gloves. She’s pictured here greeting Jane Styles, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of County Fermanagh.
Her jewelry for the day was all set with pearls, including small pearl stud earrings and a two-row pearl necklace that has been part of her personal collection for many years. Less familiar was the pearl brooch she had pinned to the lapel of her jacket.
The jewel, which is made of silver-toned metal and round white pearls, appears to be made in the shape of a leaf, with pearls acting as a border around the edge and accents in the middle of the jewel.
I’m having trouble remembering whether we’ve seen this particular brooch on Anne before. I think it looks like it’s probably been made fairly recently, given the materials and style of the piece. Can anyone else recall a previous appearance by this jewel?
