On Friday, the King and Queen of Spain hosted a diplomatic reception in Madrid, with Letizia wearing a sparkling pair of sapphire and diamond earrings for the occasion.

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia welcomed members of the diplomatic corps to the Royal Palace in Madrid for a reception on Friday. The annual event celebrates the importance of Spain’s diplomatic relationships, and the King delivered remarks to that effect, noting that Spain views its foreign policy as part of a larger effort to promote “human rights and the dignity of all people.”

For the reception, Queen Letizia was resplendent in a floor-length gown of midnight blue velvet. UFO No More reminds us that the dress comes from Felipe Varela, the Spanish designer who has dressed Letizia for numerous important royal moments.

The dress comes with its own sparkle in the form of beaded buttons, but Letizia upped the ante with a gorgeous pair of sapphire and diamond earrings from her jewelry box. The earrings feature drops with pear-shaped sapphires nestled in a diamond cluster, suspended from a trio of pear-shaped diamonds.

The earrings have been in Letizia’s collection for at least six years. One of her earliest appearances in the sapphires came during a concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution in 2018.

In recent years, Princess Leonor has also borrowed the sapphire and diamond earrings. She memorably wore them for the Princess of Girona Awards in Lloret de Mar in the summer of 2024.

As usual, Letizia didn’t add any other major bejeweled accessories to her ensemble. Her only other piece of jewelry was her Coreterno ring, which has been a fixture on the index finger of her left hand for three years. Many have suggested that the ring, which is inscribed with a romantic passage from Dante, was a gift from King Felipe.
