Last week, the King and Queen of Spain headed to China for a state visit. For a special gala concert event, Queen Letizia wore elegant black and white with classic diamonds and pearls.

On Wednesday, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain joined China’s President Xi Jinping and his wife, First Lady Peng Liyuan, for a special orchestra concert at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Ahead of the performance, the royal and presidential couples shared a meal at the Great Hall of the People.

The concert was performed by some familiar friends: the orchestra of the Royal Theatre of Madrid. The concert marked the first time that the orchestra had performed in China. Gustavo Gimeno, the Royal Theatre’s new music director, conducted the orchestra, and the program featured the soprano Sabina PuĂ©rtolas.

For the gala dinner and concert, Queen Letizia reached into her closet for a black-and-white dress from one of her go-to designers, Carolina Herrera. The dress features a structured bodice with a white chiffon panel embroidered with sequins, beads, and pearls.

Letizia sensibly kept the rest of her jewelry simple, wearing a favorite pair of diamond and pearl earrings that have been in her collection for more than a decade.

The earrings, which feature bezel-set diamonds in white gold and creamy cultured pearl drops, come from the noted Spanish jewelry firm Ansorena. The stud portion of the earrings can also be worn separately.

Queen Letizia has worn this Carolina Herrera dress once before, styled similarly but with very different earrings, at the Princess of Asturias Awards in Oviedo in October 2022.

Instead of pearls, she wore a gorgeous pair of diamond floral earrings with a girandole-style design. The earrings were given to Letizia by the Emir of Qatar during his state visit to Spain in May 2022. Which style of earring do you like better with the dress: the all-diamond pair, or the diamond and pearl drops?
