Today, the Spanish royals arrived in Copenhagen for the start of a three-day state visit to Denmark, and they were welcomed by the Danish royals—who wore gorgeous brooches for the occasion.

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain touched down in Copenhagen on Monday to begin their state visit to Denmark. They were greeted at the airport by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who was joined by Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, and Princess Benedikte. After the airport reception, the royals headed to Amalienborg Palace for an official welcome ceremony.

For her arrival in Denmark, Queen Letizia wore a red dress with matching accessories and a camel-colored coat.

She added a favorite pair of earrings: diamond and ruby earrings in the shape of a dove holding a wreath. The jewels are part of a suite gifted to Letizia’s mother-in-law, Queen Sofia, by members of the Saudi royal family.

Letizia has worn the earrings on several occasions, including a memorable appearance during a state visit to Japan in April 2017.

Queen Margrethe chose an ensemble in shades of fuchsia and gray for the arrival of her Spanish royal guests. (Like most of her European royal cousins, Felipe and Letizia call Margrethe “Tante Daisy.”)

She wore two favorite pieces from her jewelry box for the occasion. Her gold and diamond earrings, which come from Van Cleef & Arpels, are one of her most-worn pairs of earrings. Her brooch is even more special. The pearl and diamond brooch originally belonged to Margrethe’s great-grandmother, Princess Louise Margaret, Duchess of Connaught.

The brooch, pictured here on Margrethe with the same earrings in 2016, was inherited by Louise Margaret’s younger daughter, Lady Patricia Ramsay, who wore the jewel on her wedding day in 1919. In April 1953, Patricia gave the brooch to her niece, Margrethe, as an eighteenth-birthday present. Queen Margrethe has treasured and worn the brooch ever since.

Crown Princess Mary was warmly dressed in a dark green coat with a coordinating hat for the arrival of the Spanish royals in Copenhagen.

She added sparkle to her ensemble with some favorite pieces from her own jewelry box. She paired her pavé-set diamond floral earrings with a gold and diamond brooch from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen.

Mary wore the same brooch back in August 2018 as she helped to welcome the President of France and Mme. Macron to Copenhagen for a state visit.

We didn’t get a great close-up look at Princess Benedikte’s jewels from the arrival ceremony, but she definitely wore pearls with her textured pink coat for the occasion.
