On Friday, the Spanish royals headed to Alcala de Henares for an important annual literary celebration. We’ve got a look at the jewels Queen Letizia chose for the occasion—and an overview of the earrings she’s worn for this event over the years.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were among the notable attendees at the University of Alcalá de Henares on Friday for the awarding of the Cervantes Prize. They were joined by several other dignitaries, including Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
The prestigious prize is a lifetime achievement award that honors the work of a Spanish-language writer. This year’s recipient is Cristina Peri Rossi, a Uruguayan novelist, poet, and journalist who resides in Barcelona. Peri Rossi was not able to attend the ceremony because of health problems. The award was collected on her behalf by Cecilia Roth, an Argentine actress who also lives in Spain.
The day of the awards ceremony was rainy and chilly, and Letizia arrived wearing a warm coat and, at some points, carrying an umbrella. The men were dapper in morning dress.
Under her coat, Letizia wore a long-sleeved blue dress.
She accessorized with her Bulgari diamond and aquamarine hoop earrings. The earrings can also be worn with a large aquamarine drop.
Let’s look back at the earrings Letizia has worn for the prize ceremony over the year, shall we? In April 2013, she wore her diamond and citrine drop earrings.
She wore a pair of earrings with red drops for the ceremony in April 2015. (These are different from her cabochon ruby and diamond earrings.)
She wore the Bulgari diamond and aquamarine hoops with the aquamarine drops for the prize ceremony in April 2016.
For the ceremony in April 2017, Letizia wore her earrings with bezel-set diamond stud and round Australian pearl drops.
Letizia wore flower earrings from Yanes (which also have a coordinating ring) for the ceremony in April 2018.
For the prize ceremony in April 2019, Letizia chose her her modern diamond cluster, ribbon, and drop earrings.
And for a visit to the Cervantes Institute in April 2021, Letizia wore the same Bulgari hoops that she wore for this year’s ceremony.
And here’s a look at the earrings from Friday’s appearance one more time.
