The Daily Diadem: Elena Vladimirovna's Cartier Kokoshnik



Princess Nicholas of Greece and Denmark (born Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia) wears the diamond kokoshnik made for her by Cartier, ca. 1907; the tiara, made in 1902, was later inherited by her daughter, Princess Olga, but its current whereabouts are apparently unknown


Jewels on Film: THE CROWN (Season 2, Episode 1)


It's that time again, magpies: season two of The Crown has officially debuted on Netflix, and I've got our first bejeweled recap of the new batch of episodes. The marriage of Princess Marina [1] has sent delvers back into history for comparisons. One such has taken up the subject of the engagement rings of royalty, for royal women are just as much attached to these marks of betrothal as are girls in shops and offices and mills.

In Memoriam: King Michael of Romania

News came today that King Michael of Romania has died at his home in Switzerland. The last monarch of Romania was 96. Tomorrow, details about his funeral, which will take place in Bucharest, will be released. His daughter, Margarita, is Custodian of the Crown of Romania.

The Swedish vaults are packed with colorful gemstones, including complete parures set with sapphires, amethysts, and aquamarines. The family also once owned an enormous parure of emerald jewels, but that left the family ages ago and now belongs to the Norwegian royals. Although the Swedish royals lost their major emerald parure, the collection does still include a number of emerald pieces, including a historic suite: the Bernadotte Emeralds.

When the heraldic emblem of your noble/royal family is a fancy knot, it should almost be required that you possess at least one tiara that features knots made of diamonds, don’t you think? The stars on this sparkler, which belongs to the Duke of Aosta (or Savoy, depending who you ask), are just the icing on the tiara cake.
