Felipe and Letizia arrived at Haneda Airport in Tokyo on Tuesday, a day before the official start of the visit. A low-key welcome ceremony was held at the airport.

Letizia chose a pair of familiar earrings from her jewelry box: the long gold and diamond earrings from Tous.

On Wednesday morning, the visit kicked off with an official welcome ceremony at the Imperial Palace.

Letizia stepped up her earring game considerably for this event. These diamond and ruby earrings are loaners from her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia. The earrings depict a diamond-encrusted dove holding a ruby wreath in its beak. They have a matching necklace; the set was a gift to Sofia from the Saudi royal family.

Empress Michiko was chic and elegant, as per usual, in pearls and a golden brooch.
