One Swedish royal lady has given us a masterclass in tiara versatility over the past several years, and our Nobel Tiara Prize showcases four (!) different settings of a single tiara! It’s Princess Sofia wearing emeralds in 2015 vs. Princess Sofia wearing topazes in 2022…

In December 2015, a few months after her royal wedding, Princess Sofia brought out her bridal tiara for her first Nobel appearance as an HRH.

On December 10, 2015, Princess Sofia arrived for the Nobel celebrations wearing a silk taffeta ballgown from Oscar de la Renta. Sofia was expecting her first child, Prince Alexander, at the time.

With the gown, Sofia wore the same diamond and emerald tiara that she’d worn for her royal wedding ceremony in June 2015.

The tiara, with its distinctive diamond palmette design, featured a set of emerald toppers. The jewel was a gift from her new in-laws, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. The tiara was made by reconfiguring an emerald and diamond necklace from Silvia’s personal jewelry collection. For the Nobels in 2015, she paired the emerald version of the tiara with an heirloom piece from the Bernadotte collection: the Diamond Lozenge Brooch.

Sofia also wore modern diamond and emerald drop earrings for the 2015 Nobels.

Here’s one more look at Sofia’s emerald and diamond jewels at the Nobel banquet.

Princess Sofia surprised royal watchers with another setting of her palmette tiara at the Nobels in December 2022.

Princess Sofia descended the staircase to the Nobel Prize banquet on December 10, 2022, wearing a gray-blue gown from Ida Lanto.

By this time, Sofia’s original diamond palmette wedding tiara had been altered to make it significantly more wearable and versatile. The coronet-style frame was changed to a more open, hal0-like setting, and additional topper elements were made available to swap out with the original emeralds.

At the 2022 Nobels, Sofia debuted a new set of topper elements for the tiara: briolette-cut blue topazes.

She also wore a pair of earrings from LWL Jewelry that also feature briolette-cut blue topaz drops.

And she finished off the look with a diamond bow brooch from the Swedish royal vaults.
