The Greville Ruby Necklace vs. Camilla’s Ruby Necklace

This royal necklace, which features a distinctive v-shaped design, was made by Boucheron in 1907 for Dame Margaret Greville. The piece has a romantic vibe, with diamond floral elements in its design, punctuated by a few red rubies. The piece was among the numerous jewels that Mrs. Greville left to Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) in 1942. Five years later, she presented it to her daughter, the present Queen, as a wedding gift. The Queen been wearing the necklace ever since, and in recent years she has also loaned it to the Duchess of Cambridge.

In March 2013, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall made a visit to Saudi Arabia during a Middle Eastern tour. Afterward, their yearly gift report included a “parure” from King Abdullah. No additional description of the set was provided, but many believe that it is this suite of ruby and diamond jewels. The necklace is essentially a complicated festoon with diamond and ruby cluster elements. Camilla wore the necklace and matching earrings for the Royal Film Performance of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in 2015.
