The end of the year is fast arriving, and you all know what that means: it's time for our annual countdown of the best royal jewels of 2019! We're kicking off our review with a tiara surprise from Sweden...

#10: Princess Sofia's New Tiara Setting

We first got to know this diamond and emerald palmette diadem as Princess Sofia's wedding tiara. After her royal wedding in 2015, she wore the tiara frequently with its original emerald toppers. Note that the shape of the tiara was almost like a coronet, sitting atop Sofia's head.

In 2017, we were delighted to see a major renovation of the palmette tiara. The shape was changed to form a halo around Sofia's head, and a second set of toppers, this time pearls was also introduced. Around this time, Sofia also began wearing the tiara in an all-diamond setting, with no toppers at all.

And in December 2019, Sofia surprised us by debuting a third set of toppers. She wore this new turquoise setting of the tiara for the Nobel Prize ceremony and banquet in Stockholm, pairing it with a stunning pair of turquoise earrings. When you've only got one personally-owned tiara, isn't it wonderful to have one that can be worn in so many different ways?
