2. For Saturday's Pascua Militar ceremony, Queen Sofia wore pearls with the diamond and ruby pendant she inherited from her mother, Queen Friederike of Greece.

1. My top vote of the week goes to a beautiful brooch worn by a slowly-reappearing princess. The senior Japanese princesses wore lovely daytime jewels to the New Year's Lectures. Crown Princess Masako, who attended for the first time in more than a decade (!), wore sparkling earrings and her elaborate diamond scroll brooch. Also: Princess Kiko wore pearls with a gold-toned brooch, and Princess Mako wore pearls with the twisted ribbon brooch she wore in Paraguay in 2016.
