10. Queen Silvia of Sweden visited her native Germany this week. During a visit to Dusseldorf on Tuesday, she wore a set of diamond and gold jewelry, including a modern brooch.

9. Infanta Elena of Spain has clearly inherited her mother's penchant for wearing layers of jewelry. On Thursday, she marked "Dia de la Caridad" in Madrid while wearing layered necklaces, gold hoop earrings, and several bracelets and rings.

8. Elena's sister-in-law, Queen Letizia of Spain, wore a pair of elaborate statement earrings on Monday for a visit to an architecture exhibition in Madrid.

2. One of the most exciting jewel moments of the week, without a doubt, was the debut of a new brooch by Queen Elizabeth II: the lens-shaped diamond and pearl brooch she wore at a garden party on Tuesday. Read more about it over here!

1. Just about the only thing that could top a new piece of royal jewelry = tiaras! My top vote goes jointly to the gala jewels worn by Queen Sonja and Princess Astrid of Norway this week during a state visit from Poland. (Crown Princess Mette-Marit sat out the event because of lingering back problems.) Sonja wore the family's grand emerald parure, while Astrid wore her whimsical ruby aigrette. The fuzzy screencaps above are from this video -- I highly recommend watching it, in part so you can see just how very active this particular aigrette really is!
