The Bejeweled Reign of Elizabeth II: The 1980s


The fourth decade of the Queen's reign, the 1980s, was filled with joy, drama, and a whole lot of sparkling jewels...



1980: Elizabeth wears the Vladimir Tiara with pearls, the Duchess of Gloucester's Pendant Earrings, and Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee Necklace at a state banquet in Switzerland





1981: At the Royal Variety Performance, Elizabeth pairs the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara with the Delhi Durbar Necklace and Earrings



1982: At the film premiere of Absence of Malice, Elizabeth wears the King Khalid Necklace with her Modern Chandelier Earrings and Queen Victoria's Diamond Bracelet



1983: At a banquet in India, Elizabeth wears the necklace and earrings from the Brazilian Aquamarine Parure



1984: In Jordan, Elizabeth wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Brooch with a demi-parure of turquoise, sapphire, and diamond jewels (a gift from King Hussein in 1966)



1985: On a state visit to Portugal, Elizabeth pairs the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara with the rarely-seen Kent Amethyst Demi-Parure



1986: Elizabeth wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara with Queen Mary's Ruby Cluster Earrings and the Baring Ruby Necklace during a visit to China



1987: An official portrait shows Elizabeth wearing the George IV Diadem with Queen Mary's Ruby Cluster Earrings and the Ruby and Diamond Bandeau Necklace given to her by her parents as a wedding gift
